Ashley Anderson

Supervised Clinic Counsellor

Hi there! My name is Ashley Anderson. I am a 4th-year student in the Bachelor of Indigenous Social Work program at Laurentian University. I am originally from Newfoundland and have Irish, European, and Mi’kmaq ancestry. I now live in Keswick, Ontario.

My educational journey began in 2011 with the completion of my Addictions and Community Service Worker diploma. I went on to complete a Social Service Worker diploma at Centennial College in 2015. In 2019, I began part-time studies at Laurentian University, pausing briefly between 2022 and 2023 to start a family before resuming my program.

Professionally, I have built extensive experience in the housing sector, case management, and advocacy. My practice is rooted in a client-centred, solution-focused framework, drawing on approaches such as motivational interviewing, narrative therapy, and the Medicine Wheel from Aboriginal Theory, among others.

What motivates me to do this work is my own lived experience. I have faced many challenges and hardships and, with the support of others, have been able to overcome them. Along the way, I have found healing through one-to-one therapy, self-help groups, and traditional Indigenous ceremonies—addressing both generational trauma and the difficulties of my own lifetime.
Because of this journey, I am committed to walking alongside others as they restore balance, resilience, and joy in their lives.
