Amy Klauke

Affordable Student-Led Clinic Counsellor

Hi, I’m Amy Klauke. I’m a 3rd year student in the Honours Bachelor of Counselling Psychology program at Georgian College. I am a mother of 3 teenagers and 4 fur babies, including an Autism Assistance Dog Guide, so I am passionate about animals and their therapeutic capacity. I am experienced in navigating an Autism diagnosis and services with my youngest son for the past 10 years. Before entering the HBCP program, I was diagnosed with ADHD, in addition to my children. Learning to support individuals and families through the challenges facing neurodivergence in the school system, government resources, and day-to-day living has been a way of life for myself and my family. Advocacy for myself and my children extends to my peers as I serve on the Dean’s Student Academic Engagement Council at Georgian College. I was also certified as a Peer Mediator and served as a Peer Helper as a Secondary Student.

Furthermore, I have lived with a chronic illness since I was a child (IBS), autoimmune conditions as an adult (chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia, psoriasis), and vestibular migraines, which has helped me develop compassion in my approach to others and insight into the development of resilience, self-awareness, and identity. I grew up as a sibling to an autistic brother and a daughter to a mother who battled with breast cancer and subsequently passed away when I was 25, which gives me a unique lens through which to see individuals in families that are receiving difficult or unexpected diagnoses and perhaps experiencing loss. My own journey through complex grief and CPTSD through a divorce, single motherhood, and trauma healing has fueled my passion for prioritizing self-care, healthy relationships, and exploration of the mind-body-soul connection through embracing curiosity in existential and philosophical questions.

My approach to therapy is client-centered, solution/strengths-focused, and positive psychology-based, with experience in CBT, mindfulness, and group therapy. I hope that my personal experience will benefit clients through embodying safety, empathy, authenticity, and unconditional positive regard towards every client.
