Dawn Lortie
Supervised Clinic Counsellor
Hello,
My given name is Dawn Lortie, and my spirit name is Wasesgun, meaning "Ray of Light". I am currently working toward my Honours Bachelor of Social Work at Lakehead University in Orillia. I also have a BA in Native Studies from Laurentian University, which gave me a strong foundation for working with First Nations, Inuit, and Métis children, families, and communities over the years.
I am a proud First Nations and Métis woman from Mistawasis Nêhiyawak First Nation. Growing up, I learned the importance of living off the land and being close to nature, surrounded by the lakes of northern Ontario. I have called Simcoe County home for the past forty years and raised my family here. After retiring from Indigenous child welfare, I wanted to continue supporting people seeking someone grounded to walk with them on their healing journey. I work with traditional medicines, and my bundle to help adults find answers within themselves, in a counselling setting. I gravitate towards narrative therapy because storytelling has always been a big part of my life and culture. My teachings guide me toward balance and harmony in my life and will help those who want to do the same. I am grateful for the placement opportunity with the diverse and knowledgeable team at Mainstream Therapy.
